I've been struggling to articulate my feelings since Gemma and Marco called around 22:00 last night to tell me that Guido had passed away from a heart attack during the day while he was at home with his wife Francesca. His sudden death feels like a profound injustice, a stark reminder that we do not control the time we have on this earth. He was only 61...

Guido departed unexpectedly and far too soon, but he made the most of his time during his life, leaving behind a legacy that will resonate for years to come.

Guido was not just an extraordinary musician; passionate about jazz and Brazilian music, he was kind, nurtured relationships and inspired creativity in everyone around him.

For me, Guido was primarily a cherished friend.

We first met in Tirana in the late 2000s when he performed with Larry Franco. In May 2009, I visited Bari for the first time and discovered the remarkable music school "Il Pentagramma," founded by Guido in 1985. A year later, after exchanging a few messages via Guido's BlackBerry, I returned to record my debut album, "Mulheres," at the studio of the "old Pentagramma." None of this would have been possible without Guido's support and guidance. He not only played guitar on "Mulheres" but also introduced me to incredible musicians with whom I've recorded three albums over the past 15 years. For this, I am eternally grateful.

Our paths intertwined for the last time one year ago, when I returned to Bari to record "The Bari Sessions". The years had passed, but his smile and kindness remained unchanged.

Guido's impact on the jazz landscape of Puglia and the surrounding region was profound through his tireless work as a musician, organiser and promoter of education and culture. Guido di Leone will be deeply missed, but his spirit and the success of everything he accomplished will always be a source of inspiration and respect. He is no longer with us, but his legacy will endure.

So long, Guido...
