Behind the Lens: The Photographer of The Complete Bari Sessions

When I decided to begin the recording sessions in Bari, I aimed to document the entire process, but I didn't know any photographers. Marco Giuliani, the guitarist and singer, who is also a photographer, told me: "I have a friend who's a professional photographer, exceptional! A true artist. If you'd like, I can find out more. You can look at his photos; his name is Antonio Sgobba." I visited the site. Antonio described himself as "Dad, Husband, former IT engineer, who loves running almost as much as he loves pizza and who enjoys photographing people and telling stories, having found the perfect balance between the two in wedding photography."
To me, wedding photography and music photography are distinct fields, which led me to wonder: Did Antonio Sgobba have a passion for music? Could he capture not only the appearance of musicians but also our emotions and the essence of the moment? His website's slogan, "Authentic moments for authentic people," along with the genuine quality of his work, persuaded me to go for it. And he succeeded brilliantly!
Antonio and I first met during the initial recording session in Bari in February 2024. His kindness, warm smile, and humor quickly won me over! If I had to describe Antonio in one word, it would be empathetic, without a doubt. He moved through the studio with the grace and silence of a cat, covering every angle, expression, and significant moment. He captured all our emotions and the entire atmosphere during the three recording sessions. He truly is an artist, and his photos tell a story (for the record, this remarkable artist is among the top 10 wedding photographers in Italy).
Despite it being his first time photographing musicians in a studio, he relished the experience of exploring our world. He returned for the subsequent sessions in May and November, and I eagerly anticipate going back to Bari for concerts, hoping that Antonio Sgobba will be there to capture them!

Amalia, thank you from the bottom of my heart—I’m truly speechless for this unexpected surprise.
When Marco told me about you, I was thrilled at the chance to take part in what I initially thought would be a one-time experience, but which instead turned into a beautiful journey.
Music has been part of my life for quite some time, and it still is today—it accompanies my days.
In my photography, what I seek is to tell stories through emotion, and that aligns perfectly with music, which is made of emotion itself.
I was honored to be a witness to this journey and to reconnect with old friends, but what touched me the most in this whole experience was the chance…
